What is AWS Class ER309/309L SAW & Flux?

Alloy ER309 is having the same composition as ER 309L composed of carbon content that is lower to 0.03%. This lower carbon content minimizes the possibility of intergranular carbide precipitation of SAW & Flux wires. This increases the intergranular corrosion resistance without using the stabilizers like columbium (niobium) or titanium. These SAW & Flux wires provide strength that may not be as immense at high temperatures due to low-carbon alloy as that of the columbium (niobium)-stabilized alloys. These ER309 SAW & Flux welding wires are ideal over ER 309 for cladding over low alloy or carbon steels. They are preferred for different joints enduring heat treatment. A medium hard-coated, primary type electrode giving 25/12 deposit has excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance in continuous service up to 1100°C.
