As these W86231 Coated electrodes have a high chromium concentration in conjunction with the minor elements silicon, manganese, and lanthanum, the alloy has exceptional resistance to oxidizing conditions at temperatures up to 2100 Degree F.

Because of its low coefficient of thermal expansion, the alloy is extremely resistant to thermal fatigue. The alloy's balanced composition prevents the production of intermetallic phases such as sigma, or laves phases, which might considerably impair the alloy's ductility.
These coated electrodes have an alloy that is solution heat treated at temperatures ranging from 2150 Degree F to 2250 Degree F and quickly cooled or water quenched.
Because of its high nickel concentration, the alloy is also resistant to carburizing and nitriding conditions. Combustors, transition ducts, and temperature sensors in gas turbine engines, as well as nozzles for rocket engines, are among the primary uses. Other uses include catalyst grid supports for ammonia oxidation for the production of nitric acid, high-temperature heat exchangers, high-temperature bellows, and heat treatment equipment.
