What is AWS Class ER317L SAW & Flux?
ER317L is a low carbon corrosion-resistant austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel SAW & Flux wire. The high levels of these wires guarantee the alloy has greater chloride pitting and general corrosion resistance to the conventional 304/304L and 316/316L grades. These wires present enhanced resistance relative to 316L in sturdily corrosive environments having sulfurous media, chlorides, and other halides. These wires are non-magnetic in the annealed condition. It cannot be hardened by heat treatment. However, the material has been set suitably for the cold working. It is used efficiently for welding and processed by standard shop fabrication practices.

Characteristics of AWS Class ER317L SAW & Flux:
- • It has the Weld deposit the same as ER316L with advanced molybdenum content.
- • The minimized carbon provides resistance to sensitization during welding and other thermal processes.
ER317L has the best corrosion resistance in a wide range of chemicals. Increased chromium, nickel, and molybdenum levels compared to 316L stainless steel improve resistance to chloride pitting and general corrosion. This alloy has the best resistance to solutions of higher concentration.
Application of AWS Class ER317L SAW & Flux:
It is mainly in acidic chloride surroundings like those in pulp and paper mills. However, service tests are optional to account for precise operating conditions that may influence corrosion behavior. In a development where condensation of sulfur-bearing gases occurs, Alloy 317L is much more resistant to attack at the point of condensation than conventional alloy 316.
